I am so excited to be posting the very first Heritage Challenge here at ScrapArtist! I hope we have tons and tons of participation! For those of you who have never scrapped a heritage photo ... now is the time to start! It's so much fun! By the way, I usually consider anything 1970's and before as heritage.
The challenges will last 2 weeks so that gives you plenty of time to find a photo, scan it and scrap it. The title of this challenge is "THE ABC'S OF HERITAGE SCRAPPING." It's an easy one. All you have to do is pick out any kit you have that has an ALPHA in it and use the alpha to create your title. Don't limit yourself to "heritagey kits." You really can use any kit to scrap heritage pictures. I used two of the newest ScrapArtist combo kits: Jubilation and Grateful.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Be sure to post your layouts in the Heritage Challenge Gallery (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=585). And post a reply here so we all know that you have a new layout posted. Have fun with this one!!!
Here are two examples I have created:
Triplets (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4485&cat=531)
1942 [Eastman] (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4486&cat=531)

Great to see you here Karon! I can't wait to see what you create for this challenge. I love your layouts so much! My Christmas was great though somewhat of a blur. It took my 4 kids about 10 minutes to rip open all of theie presents! Funny how it took me several hours to wrap them!

A wee bit cheeky since I had this completed some time ago! Will try to complete a new one before the 2 weeks is up - just wanted to get one in early! (Especially since you inspired it a while back!)

This picture is one of my favourites. I never met any of this people, they unfortunately passed away before I was born but because my granddad often spoke of his family, I felt close to them. He used to say that to know where you are going, you need to know where you are coming from ... This is so true !
So here is my Family Portrait (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4494&cat=531)
Thank you for looking

Robyn, thanks so much for doing this! I just got a bunch of photos from my Mom at Christmas. (With the promise of sending crates more of my maternal Grandmother's pictures) All the pictures Mom gave me are of her parents and their siblings...dating back to the 20's and 30's. Now I need to scan and do some layouts!

Hi ScrapArtists! This is my first post and layout here at SA, I'm so excited to see the challenge here and to be over here in general. I plug away at my mom's album bit by bit thanks to Robyn's heritage challenge. Here's Mom at her College recital http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4560&cat=500&ppuser=783. I really needed to restore the photo, and I did try, but honestly, I kinda like the vertical lines in the photo against the horizontal stripes, I don't know, maybe I'm just used to seeing them, LOL!
Anyway, glad to be here! I hope to jump in a bit more :)

Here is my layout. The pictures are of my mom and dad in 1945. I'm excited about participating in these challenges because they're fun but also to leave the layouts for my children. My parents have passed away, and I don't have many photos or information about their lives when they were young; I want to document what I do remember.

Here's my layout. This was really fun to work on. My final page is nothing like what I thought it was going to end up as! My daughter completed a family genealogy book 3 years ago,and she had been able to collect many old, old photos. We scanned them for her book, I never thought I would use one for this! Now, I'm thinking about doing more in this genre. As with many families, there aren't many generational photos of women, but I am hoping to find one to work with!

Okay, so I chose a background from a kit that didn't include an alpha! That is because I didn't read the directions CAREFULLY, LOL! so I went and picked an alpha to go with it myself! I hope that will count!

Well, Robyn, it is a cold, blustery, rainy day here in northern California so the best thing for me to do is to scrap a layout !!
I have already entered a layout in the challenge, but I still have a bunch of new Scrapartist goodies to try out. I just had to do something with Michelle's new Old Metal Frame set and so I scrapped this picture of my Grandmother when whe was age 15. This is so much fun!!
You will find it at http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4694&nocache=1

We're far from cold and blustery here in Texas! We've been driving back from our vacation all day and had awesome weather ... in got up to 82!!!! Now that's what I call winter. But you got me sidetracked - the layout you posted is really spectacular! That frame is so cool. I HAVE to get it! Thank you so much for posting another layout.

This is my first visit with Santa in 1972. My goal for 2006 is to get a good start on my heritage scrapbook. I finally got a good scanner and now I am in the process of scanning in the hundreds of old family photos that I have sitting around. I may revise this layout a bit as I am not 100% satisfied with it yet, but that is what is so awesome about digital!
I used the kit Tis the Season at TDC. I could not figure out how to edit my original photo post to add the credits.

I confess that I'm probably going to scrap this picture a lot because I love it so much and how it turned out. Here's the original that I had to work with http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=4846&cat=585. I just love seeing how enamored with each other that my great grandparents were before they became parents. I didn't get to meet my great grandmother but have always felt I knew her through my famililes stories and pictures. She died when she was 56 of a rare disease. However, my great grandfather lived to be 102 and I knew him very well as did my own children.

This challenge caught my eye right away as I have tons of photos I could/should be scrapping! It is fun to see all of the heritage layouts and get some great ideas! I gave my three older kids heritage albums for Christmas and it was so fun to put them together. I could keep making them pages for quite some time if I did every photo!
Thanks for the fun challenge, Robyn!

Doris - That is a really great layout! I am so glad you joined us. And don't worry about 1970's pictures being heritage ... I had to have the cutoff sometime and many people consider things "antique" when they are 25 years old so that is how I decided on the 1970's.
Doris R
01-08-2006, 08:04 AM
Thanks Robyn.
:)I hope you know I was teasing about all that "1970's Heritage stuff." It was a bit a jolt though, those were the years I had my babies, and to me sometimes it seems like yesterday, but myself being born in the 50's I have always thought of those years as where "heritage" begins. Its all a matter of our frame of reference.
When my daughter was a middle school student she started wearing peace signs. One of her dance teachers commented on them and she proudly said, "and this one is an antique...it was my mother's." I guess I should have known then!!! :D
happyrobyn
01-08-2006, 08:21 AM
LOL Doris! I knew you were kidding but I wanted to post anyway about where I came up with 1970's as heritage. Besides ... many of our members don't have any earlier pictures than their childhood and I want everyone to participate. Me being born in 1970, it is hard to think that my childhood is heritage but time marches on and things just get better and better!!!
A new challenge will be posted tomorrow! (Actually for those of you who want a head start, I will probably post it tonight before I go to bed.)
There's still time to squeak in another for this week though!!!!

Okay...I'm over here too now!! I know I'm like waaay behind but I'm gonna catch up as quickly as possible!
(I never knew I liked challenges so much) ;)
I've been wanting to work on my heritage photos so these challenges will be perfect for me to do that!
For the 1st challenge I am submitting a layout of my dearly beloved grandma Prudy.
I lost her last year, in fact I couldn't even think of scrapping for about 4 months or so.
Digital scrapping really came in handy for me to produce a quick layout for a website
I created in her honor. That's what I love about digi scrapping...anyways, here's
my layout...
