Hi girls-
I purchased nancie's still life kit. It has a stick pin in it and I was wondering how to make it look like you weaved it in the papers. I tried erasing parts of the pin, but it just didn't look right. I'm using paint shop pro 10. Thanks Michlle:)

OK, a friend of mine told me how to do this once.... and I didn't end up being very good at it, but perhaps you will be.... she basically said that rather than erasing the part that disappears underneath the paper, you are just going to change the opacity of it, so that it looks like it's slipped underneath the paper... like it's raising the paper up... does that make sense? Maybe someone else has a better answer because as I mentioned, I was never very good at it.

Good luck!!!

Thanks so much for posting. That makes sense. I never thought of doing it that way. I will try it. Thanks again Michelle:)

and I can't wait to try it. I usually erase and then use the burn tool (I am sorry, I don't know if it is called that in PSP but I am positive that there is a tool that burns). I do mine as a "sandwich" with the pin, the paper, a duplicate of the pin and erase on the top pin. Then I use the bottom pin (which hasn't been erased) as a guide on where to use the burn tool (which has to be used on the paper). Once I like it, I erase the bottom pin. What is left is the top with some of it erased lying on a paper that has been burned along the path where the pin would be had it not been erased. Holy cow! If you can follow this post you are a rocket scientist! If it helps, thank goodness, if it confuses just ignore it!:o

I am going to have to try this! I use PSP but also have PS and other programs too...lol Almost all of the tools in PS are in PSP too :) So the dodge trick should work for anyone using PSP :) Cant wait to try it!

Okay, I see I do this a bit differently than the dodge and burn option. The stick pins that I have used are missing the portion that is under the paper or photo.

So here is what I do. I put my stick pin where I want it on the layout. Now I make a selection of the paper/photo that it will be stuck into, but only included the portion that will be "over" the stick pin. This selection is rectangular and narrow (just a bit bigger than the stick pin would be). Once I made the selection, I copy the selection into a new layer (Ctrl J in PSE/PS). Next I move this new layer above the stick pin. Now with this new layer, I use the bevel option (I have tried various ways and I can't always remember which one I liked the best). I also change the bevel size to much smaller than the default 21 pixels PSE has.

Then you could also use the burn and dodge tools to further fine tune the look. I will have to see if I can find any of my LO's where I used this and post.
