View Full Version : What's everyone doing for Mother's Day?
I think Mother's Day is celebrated universally, just at different times of the year (England's was earlier this year, right?). Anyway, what are your plans for this Sunday?
My dh and kids always make every meal, and we make a trek out to the cemeteries to place flowers on my mother's and my mil's graves. I prefer to stay home otherwise, just being with my kids. :biglove:

Yup, Mother's Day is in March here. Buuuut, I celebrate in May, because that's what I'm used to (it's the same date in Brazil). I have no idea what I'll be doing. Probably going out for lunch... the usual.
Gifts? I gifted myself during NSD, LOL... more than enough!

My DH thinks days like Mother's Day and Father's Day are overrated - therefore the gift will more than likely be small. I've seen a handbag that I like that he has said I can have if I want.
Sunday.... we might go for a drive to see each of our mothers although they live in separate directions from our place.
I'm hoping to spend the day scrapping. I know I won't have to cook because I never have to cook on Mother's Day. And I get control of the remote control that night as well! So we watch MY shows. :okej:

It isn't much of a big deal in our household either. DH is working that day so he said that we might celebrate early and have dinner out on Friday instead.

Well I've just been called in to work on Sunday so that means I'm spending 9 hours on Mother's Day working!! :holysheep:

Sue, that sucks. My kids make a HUGE deal out of it...they make things at school and they were saying yesterday afterschool, "DON"T look in my backpack! I'll clean it out!!" they're so cute! They treat me like a queen on Mother's Day...wish it could last all year!

Aren't they so cute. I have memories of past Mothers Days when I wore pasta necklaces to church. And the year that we were so broke that I couldn't give my children any money to buy anything for me so they went down to the local charity store and asked the ladies behind the counter if they would give them a necklace so they would have something to give me. And then my daughter came home and made a bunch of flowers out of paper. I still have both the flowers and the necklace put away.
Yesterday when I picked my youngest up from school, she was trying to hide her present but she wanted me to see the really cool string she had tied the bag with. I had to promise not to peek at anything else but the string while she showed me. lol

Alivia and I have arranged to go to a little thing over where I have my shop. There is a girl there who does aromatherapy facials and makeovers using only all natural cosmetics. The facial would be lovely (and I actually have a gift certificate for one) but we are going to mix our own natural moisturizer that we get to take home. I'm hoping there will be a surprise makeover but if not I will treasure the time with my little girl. Should be fun!
By the way, had to check in and post 'cause I've been so busy over at "the O" and I miss all you girls terribly. Hope all is well and everyone has a splendid Mother's Day. Hugs to all-Amber
PS- I have started a blog and would love to invite you guys to check it out!

DS was this way yesterday. He said the exact same thing! LOL! "Don't look in my bookbag!!!" When I asked him what he did in school, he refused to tell me saying that it was a surprise.
DD1, on the other hand, could not wait and gave me her school project as soon as I picked her up from preschool. I don't think she quite gets the concept of waiting to surprise me yet! :giggle:

Happy Mother's Day, buddy!
My girls wrote me the sweetest notes this morning, and they made me breakfast in bed. We are having everyone here for dinner, but Mike is bbq'ing. So a fun day at home with family....just perfect!

Well my presents were: 2 boxes of chocolates (one from each of my older children) and a gorgeous 'flower pot' made of a disposable cup with string glued around it and the 'flowers' are made of dishcloths and sprayed with perfume. They have pride of place on my sideboard. :love01:
My DH gave me a beautiful card and had cut some roses from our garden that were waiting in a vase and sitting on my table a clean kitchen when I came home from work.

And I'm betting the clean kitchen was the best of it all, wasn't it... LOL... They know the way to a mother's heart!
I'm closing my day with some wine, cheese and smoked salmon - call that dinner, I'm not cooking today! We went out for lunch, I scrapped a lot, talked to mom back in Brasil, it was an awesome day. We should have it twice a year!!!
