This week I 've been playing around with light modes.

Instead of just putting my photo (or elements) (the ONE layer) on a certain light mode, instead I've left the original layer on normal, then I've made a copy of that layer. (Side note here: Did you know that whatever layer you are on can be easily copied if you click on it and drag it down to that little icon next to the trash can - the one that looks like a post it note). OK - so copy the layer so there are now two of them that are exactly the same. Take the top layer and change the light mode on it.

Instead of just getting the experimentation of one layer on a light mode... you are getting a "combined effect", which really opens up the possibilities that these light modes can achieve! Then, when you are really feeling adventurous, change the layer mode on the bottom layer to reveal even more possibilities. I've achieved some interesting effets with my photos by having two layers set on different light modes - I bet you'll find something interesting by playing around with this also!

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone! :)

Hi Ange
Have you got any LO's with sme examples of what you've achieved with your experiementation. I'm a bit confused - is the "light mode" u speak of the slider in the hue/saturation section (i use PS). Thanx

Dear Angela, I just have to write to tell you that I have spent uncountable hours playing with layer blend modes. I almost never add anything to a layout without playing with a few for every layer added. Not only is it more entertaining than television, it can also be sheer serendipity. I know that if I had more savvy about the technical end of things I wouldn't necessarily be so amazed at what happens but since I am technically challenged, I just love the surprises I get.

I have to admit that every photo I had went thru the Virtual Photographer. Well after playing with these modes and blending and layers, I found that I don't NEED VP anymore! You can get amazing results with just playing around like that and also altering the levels! Super tip b/c I am sure there are so many people who never thought of something so simple being so fabulous!

Well all of this lighing talk is new to me, so I can't wait to give it a try. I'd love to see some examples from those that have tried this technique!!

Nevermore - I love your thoughts on this! Bellbird - this is just something that I've recently starting doing in my layouts... I'll find an example for you and post it shortly! :)

Bellbird-

On my Christmas card in the gallery - right here:

http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=3661&cat=500&ppuser=8

I was trying to kind of blend those words onto the background paper... sort of? So, on the
Happy Holidays there is just one layer - and it is on "Screen" mode. On the 2005 there are two layers - they are on "Soft Light and screen". You can get many more effects when there are copies of the layer onto of each other, and you play with the modes from there. (Although I will admit on that example... if I turn off my soft light mode, it just changes it very little if at all! :o )

OK - hope that makes sense!

Sorry for the long delay in response... out of town for the holidays!
