Looking for a last minute gift that has a personal touch? These decorated frames make the perfect gift. http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=2715&cat=546
Materials needed:
unfinished wooden frame (these can be found at Michaels, JoAnn's or any craft store)
mod podge
clear acrylic sealer
xacto knife
printables
paint
sandpaper
measure your picture frame and print out your favorite scrapartist printables .5 to 1 inch longer then what your frame measured.
paint the sides and back of your frame (you might have to do 2 coats)
after the paint has dried put a thin layer of mod podge on the top of your frame. lay your printables on top, making sure to take a towel and starting at either the top or bottom rub out the air bubbles.
after the mod podge has dried (about 10 minutes) turn your frame over and on a hard surface cut away the extra paper with the xacto knife (including the middle of the frame)
taking the sandpaper, sand round the outside of the frame to smooth out where you have cut. also if you'd like to distress the frame some lightly sand the paint away in spots
spray the frame with 2 coats of acrylic sealer, letting each coat dry at least 15 minutes before applying a new coat.
some additional ideas for these frames:
use the Simply Stated rub on's to put a phrase at the bottom of the frame, or before printing use your favorite font to do the same.
attach flowers with glue dots
I used cardboard from a cereal box to make the chipboard letter "A" in the corner. I then tied ribbon around the chipboard alpha and attached 2 charms
add large ribbon and bow to the back of these frames and they can be hung from the wall
these frames do not include glass to protect the picture. I took a sheet of transparency that I had and cut it out the same size as the back cover. put it in front of the photo and you have a protective covering.
