Those of you with a graphic arts education have undoubtedly heard of Ladislav Sutnar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladislav_Sutnar) (1897-1976). He was a Czech graphic designer and is often called the pioneer of information design (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_design).
I do not have any graphic design background but I was at the thrift store at my church the other day and bought this really cool Graphic Arts book for like 2 bucks. I found the chapter on Sutnar simply fascinating. Here's one direct quote that I found quite relative to us as scrapbookers. "Perhaps the most significant of Sutnar's innovations was the use of spreads. He was one of the first designers to design double page spreads rather than single pages."
Anyway, this week, do a little research on Sutnar and study his work and see if you can come up with a Sutnar-inspired piece of art. Here's a good starting place for you: Google image search for Sutnar (http://images.google.com/images?q=ladislav+sutnar&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7GGLD&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi)
Here's my sample (Sutnar's version on the left, my interpretation on the right): The Original Gentleman's Club (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=53217)
