Hi everyone! Yeah, it's Wednesday - sorry about this being late! (That's what I get for not writing my "Tuesday stuff" on the calendar! I also forgot to take the garbage out last night! LOL!)

OK - here's todays tip, something I just recently discovered, and being the normal "type A" personality that I am... I just LOVE this!

It's about using the "Smart Guides" in Photoshop. I'm working in CS2 - and I'm not sure if they are in earlier versions or not... If you are working with Elements, PS 7 or CS will you post and tell me if you can find them in your version? I think they are new in CS 2 - but they are an awesome little tool.

They help you to get things "lined" up just right. So, if you have text or an element, or papers, etc. that you want lined up just right, before you start to move the layer, turn on View> Show> Smart Guides.

The "smart guide" lines appear when the active layer aligns with another layer in the image, and then they just disappear when you're done.

Try them out and see if they help you with aligning your elements, pictures, text, etc.!

Have a great week! :)

Hmmm...I don't think we have "smart" guides in the earlier versions. Can you tell us a bit more about them?

In PSE there are no guides at all (at least, PSE3 and under)...just the grid.

In PSCS there are guides...you just drag them from the ruler onto your canvas, and when you are finished with them, drag them back (or turn them off...there's some command for that but I'm not sure what it is...I think it's Ctrl+; ). I just discovered them when I was working on a brochure for Laura (scrappinsweetie), and OMG they made my life soooo easy, lol!

Bree,

They are similar to the guides that you drag over from the ruler side, but they aren't visible all the time... just when you go to line two objects up, when they are in alignment, the "smart guides" pop on showing that the items are aligned. Then they disappear again... they are just there to show when things are aligned, but they aren't permanently visible... clear as mud? lol!
