Lately I have found myself using more and more overlays...

So, I thought I would post this little tip about them...

If you are working with a black overlay and you want it to be white... make sure you are on the layer of the overlay. Then you can use the keyboard shortcut Control "U" to bring up your Hue/Saturation box...

Now, the lightness slider at the bottom is what you are going to want to work with... move it all the way to the right... and your black overlay now became a white overlay....

Similarly, if you want your white overlay to become black, move that slider all the way over to the left...

Same overlay, but a totally different effect! :)

Great tip Ange! Now how do you get the "erased" look when using overlays?

Nancie uses it on her flower in this LO:

I think she just made it white and the overlay she used had little openings here and there that let some of the paper show through.

Go to the shoppe and click on the Shmootzy frames and it says that she used the brushes as an eraser to get that look. I bought them for that very reason. Now, what I can't figure out, though, is...how do you resize them to fit perfectly around the photo or are they meant for a specific photo size? I know to increase the pixel size and all, but I don't think you can rotate the frames and stretch them when using them with the eraser tool (in PSE 3 anyway) like you can with the regular brush tool. If anyone knows, please enlighten me! Great brushes by the way! They're on sale too!

Checking back in here... lol!

Dianne and Paula... thank you for your help with Amy's question... and I'll just have to echo what they said... I think that is all done by using your brushes as an eraser and just giong in to erasing out certain parts of the frame.... however it's done... those frames are great! :)

And, Paula... a shortcut to get any layer to transform is Control T... that should help you resize it to the right size for any photo! :)
