This is a thread to discuss the Altered/Collage Challenge posted at the HUB (http://scrapartist.typepad.com/the_hub/2007/03/heritage_altere.html) (the Scrap Artist team blog) on March 12, 2007. Here is the post:
Hopefully, we can create some more awesome digital art with this month's theme. Normally I come up with a catchy name for these challenges, but I think this month's inspiration speaks for itself:
"BUDDHA"
I felt compelled to research Buddha for this challenge since my knowledge is quite limited. A common misconception among myself and most Westerners is that Buddha is the Buddhist counterpart to the Christian God. Buddhism, however, is non-theistic. In general, it does not teach the existence of a supreme creator god or depend on any supreme being for enlightenment. Buddha is a guide and teacher who points the way to Nirvana. In Buddhism, the supreme origin and creator of the universe is not a god, but rather causes and conditions obscured by time. In Buddhism, a buddha is any being who has become fully awakened (enlightened), and has experienced Nirvana. (Cited from Wikipedia.)
Obviously this is a VERY abbreviated explanation of the Buddhist religion. I encourage all who are not familiar to do some searching on the Internet and expand your knowledge a little. After you have done this, come back to this challenge and create a layout or an ATC using either an image of Buddha or a Buddhist quote (or both ... LOL!).
Here are my sample layouts: So Thankful For You (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=36150&cat=602) and A Simple Belief (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=36162&cat=602)
