I bet you thought I forgot this Tuesday... :o , didn't forget, just getting it done right here at the last minute! It was the first day of school at our house, and it's been a busy and fun day! Well, here's today's tip:

With digital scrapbooking growing so quickly and becoming so popular, we have new members joining here at Scrap Artist almost every day! When I first joined the “digi-scrapping” community I never uploaded my layouts, until one day when I was at a crop and everyone was uploading their layout so everyone else could see them. I had to have the crop moderator step me through the whole process (she was a very patient crop moderator!) So, I thought I would type up some specific directions for this for this weeks tip. We want to see your pages... we want to have lots more images in the gallery! So, please share... and from here on out, you can’t claim that you don’t know how! :)

HOW TO UPLOAD AN IMAGE TO THE SCRAP-ARTIST GALLERY

OK - step one. Once your layout is finished, in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, go to File>Save for Web. This will likely bring up a box saying something like “The image size exceeds the size Save for Web was designed for...blah, blah, blah... do you want to continue?” Click yes.

When you get to the next screen, under “Image Size”, set the height to 500 pixels. This will resize the image so you can see the whole thing on the screen and take the filesize down to something much more reasonable. (You will likely want to keep these jpeg images under 100 K once they are “Saved for Web”.) Now click save.

OK - Here is an important part.

Save the image with a different file name than your original page. For example. If I have a page titled “Cousins”, I name this jpeg image “cousinsweb”. This tells me the resolution is too low to print, but will be suitable for display on the web.

OK - now come to Scrap Artist and log in (you will have to have created a username etc. before uploading images). Go to Gallery and click on “Upload photos” in that top blue bar.

Your usename will be listed, and in the box that says “choose a category”, select if you just want it in the members gallery, or if it was a layout done for a certain crop or something, choose that from the drop down menu.

Now, where it says select the photos you wish to upload... click the browse button and find the file you want to upload from your computer (remember to choose the “web” version!)

Enter a default title (ie. Cousins) and a description in the next two boxes. About the description, it’s always best to credit the source of your elements, papers, brushes, etc. Most sites don’t want a direct link to another site that sells elements, but crediting the designers name is always encouraged. Listing the font names you used helps people to be able to locate fonts they might be interested in as well.

Under Extra Options there is an option so you will get an email every time someone leaves you a comment. You may or may not want that checked.

Now, click upload, submit. The next screen will allow you to add keywords for searches(ie. Cousins, family etc.) your font names, program used to create the paper and you can edit your description if you would like to.

Finally click “Process” to complete the upload. Now, always be sure to come back and check your image and see what people had to say about it. It’s fun to see what people notice about your page and what they like.

If you are ever looking for constructive criticism about how your page could be improved, be sure to state CC or Constructive Criticism is welcome in your description. The gallery can be a great place to learn from others as well.

Please remember to leave comments on other peoples layouts as well! It always makes peoples day to get a good comment on their layout. If you don’t get a lot of comments on your layout - it doesn’t mean that it was a bad layout. It means people are busy, and sometimes a lot of people will post right after you and your image gets “buried” in the gallery quicker than other times. I once had a page picked up to be published that only had two comments on it (not that I expected more comments or anything, but the point here is don’t judge your layouts by how many comments they get, judge them by how well you like them!)

OK - lets see all those new gallery posters this week! :)
