Photo Challenge for the week of 9/5:: Black and White Conversions!

One of my recent obsessions has been finding the "perfect" black and white conversion! I thought perhaps we could all take this challenge as an opportunity to learn from each other! I've now found several methods that I like, but am still searching for that perfect 'one'!! Maybe you have found that perfect one, maybe you're still looking for a favorite method? My challenge to you is to post your favorite and several others so that we can see a variation of conversion methods!

Now, perhaps you're new to the idea of doing a little more than just a desaturate on your photos? I'm listing a few links here, and would welcome any more that any of you have found helpful in your quest for beautiful black and white images!

Love this challenge Jenn! I never really played around with b/w conversion much. I always used the way I read about when I first started playing with PS (if it's not broke why fix it?). But after trying a couple of these methods I notice i'm missing out on alot! It's amazing the different looks you can get with just a basic b/w photo!

Thanks for the challenge

by a long shot. Haven't had this much fun since I discovered layer blend modes and had to go through every single mode every time I added an element, lol. I have tried all your links and they all produce very different results. This is so neat. One of my other favorite things is OptikVerve, of course. You can run the Black and White filters on your colour photos for fun. You can also see what their filters do to the black and white photo once you have established your black and white photo.

Here's mine. I think I should've picked a different picture. I'm trying to enjoy my break from the kids while the baby naps and Jessi is at school and instead she's multiplying. AAAAAHHH!!

What a fun challenge, I learned something new, thanks!

The first link is for my various conversions and the second is for the lo I did with the picture. I cheated a bit and used yet another filter to keep a spot of colour in the photo.
