View Full Version : Digital Swap: Faux Vintage Postage Stamps!

I thought it was about time for another digital swap as they are always fun and popular!
I love postage stamps, and have collected them since I was a little girl. Friends and family know this about me so they save special postage stamps for me right off of envelopes! I especially love the pretty ones and the ones from around the world! I've used them in real life collage work and decopage, and even have a whole flower vase that is decoupaged in all garden themed real life postage stamps...(I used Liquid Laminates on a glass vase, if anyone is curious, lol!)
well, I have always wished I had a collection of stamps that dated way back! So, why don't you all give me one? LOL! I mean, why don't we all create a stamp, vintage inspired and in png format, submit it to me (by email C.Honsinger@sbcglobal.net) by midnight January 21, and we can ALL enjoy a wonderful vintage postage stamp collection....well, kinda, lol...as these are not REAL stamps, but imagination inspired! But HEY! That IS the best kind, eh?
I hope you will enjoy this challenge! Let's fill the gallery with little treasured works of Correspondence ART! :)

Ooo, I love this too. Did you read my mind? Yesterday I had read something about faux postage. Thanks for the inspiration and that I can start with it. (I read so much and want to do it all, but the time ....)

Oh, this sounds like great fun! Here's a question for ya - is there a particular size you think we should use for our stamps?

Hi pat!
No size requirement....just large enough that the recipient can size it a little larger than regular real life stamps if they choose to..w/out loosing resolution.
Can't wait to see everyone elses stamps!
Robyn's yours is just lovely! :)

Wow, what an inspiring challenge! This is my 1st swap...I had so many ideas and wanted to keep it simple...something everyone would want to share...but in the end I decided to use a photo of my Mum when she was 21..a bit of a spoof of the Queen Elizabeth stamps that have been/are quite popular/common here in Australia and England..I guess I should have put a crown on my Mum...lol...TFL

I've been enjoying the new stamps in the gallery. Such fun ideas and themes!
Here's mine (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=31566&cat=602). Hope they aren't too far off the wall. But, hey - if they are, well that's half the fun of it! ;)

I tried to age my three-year-old granddaughter ;-) She was wearing a vintage looking 20s hat, so thought this might be appropriate. If it isn't, I still had fun making it! This is my first altered collage, so I'm looking forward to learning from everyone cuz I think I like this technique! So enjoying everyone's little tiny works of art.

I'm loving the stamps in the gallery I've seen so far! Wow, you ladies are terrific coming up with so many creative ideas! The postal service should hire the lot of you to come up with new stamps for real life (and that would totally appeal to collectors!)
don't forget to send me the png format of your stamp! (addy above) Also, put your name on it if you want to be credited when other's use it! :)
My stamp from dreamland. This young lady is from a photo taken in the late 1800s, could her faraway look be because she is day dreaming about her beau.

Well first up let me say I am loving these stamps you are all creating. And I would so love to join in but have one question.
Have you all made your own basic stamp shape templates up? If not can you please point me in the direction of the template you have used, or if you have created your own, would you mind sharing it with me please?
I have been struggling most of the afternoon to create one and I am about ready to toss my computer out the window!
Thanks
Cheryl

Cheryl, are you using photoshop? Because I just used a shapes tool in photoshop, it is a standard shape that comes with the program.
If you aren't using photoshop, then let me know, and I'll make you a template to use. Just send me your email and i'll send you the template in png format. Okay? :)

Oh my, now how silly do I feel?!?! In my defence I am still learning how to use Photoshop (7) so I have learnt something new today.
And thank you so kindly for the link to the postage stamp freebie. Will try and get something put together tonight.

I'm really thrilled to see so many new stamps in the gallery today! So cool! We have one more day for participants to join in on the fun.
PLEASE!! ATTN!
Don't forget to email me! whether you are emailing me your hi res png file of your stamp, and even if you are not emailing me your stamp. If you have not emailed me, then I will probably forget to mail you the download link of all the stamps (the brain is not perfect). I am saving all of you in a file and everyone who has emailed me for this swap will receive the big download next week. Its the way I can keep track easily.
Which reminds me, paintchip, will you please email me just so I will be able to send you the link next week without forgetting to? I already got your stamps, as you know! :)

Everyone's stamps are so great! we have such a wonderful community of artists to hang out here with at SA, do we not?
Ok, I'm going to wait until around 3:00pm PST tomorrow to make sure that everyone who wanted to participate has a chance to mail me their stamps. I'm not going to check the gallery against what I've recieved, I'm just leaving the responsibility up to each artist to get your stamps to me.
At that point, I will zip the whole lot together and upload them to You Send It. I'll email you your download links by tomorrow night!
Thanks for playing this week, everybody! It sure has been fun! Stay tuned! Robyn has a new challenge for this week that she will be posting tomorrow, as well! I hope everyone will stick around another week to play! :)

Ok, I'm still waiting on one more, sznana...she made two stamps and is not able to successfully email them to me...she says she keeps getting an undelieverable notice, however, I got everyone elses, even a new one from Denise (scrapdz) a second ago...so I think she is having a problem on her end...perhaps with her Norton program???
I have pm'd sznana here, but still have not heard back today....If you read this , sznana, please email soon! I want you to be a part of the swap!
Does anybody know her? I asked her to upload her stamps to You Send It and then mail me the link, and also, to email me, so I would have her addy to email her the entire download link.
I guess I'll wait for another half of a day...
Anybody have any suggestions how to get a hold of her? I hate making you all wait for your stamps! You did such beautiful work, all! :)

thank you so much for organising this stamp swap, I am so thrilled to have got the complete set, it took me going outside, (okay way outside for me) of my comfort zone, still only learning but had a heap of fun doing it.
Thank you to everyone.
