How do you do that? I could have sworn that you select the rectangular marqee tool and chose the rounded edge option, but it is not there. Please help! Thank you. :D

Well if you want fuzzy edges, you can use the rect marq and set the feathering, but I am guessing that's not what you want. ;-) What I do is use the shape tool make the shape and size that I need and then rasterize it. Then I select the negative area around it (to avoid the step of having to inverse the selection) with the magic wand tool, highlight the photo layer, and hit the delete button. HTH!

I believe you're thinking of the rounded rectangle which is in the shapes - Dianne's instructions for that are great :)

If you want to do just one corner rounded (or less than all four I guess LOL) you can also do it by using the circle marqee. Hold down shift to make sure you get a perfect circle, and make it the size you want. Then move the circle over the corner so that the edges line up with the sides of your square corner. Make sure you have the layer of the item you want to round selected on the layer palette. Go to select and inverse. Then you can use your eraser to erase around the circle and make a rounded edge. I can't remember where I read that now, but it works well. (If you have trouble, let me know because I'm giving the instructions from memory without PS in front of me)

Diane,

Thanks for the info! It took me a while to get this right. For other people new at this, you need to adjust the radius on the tool bar when the rounded rectangle shape is selected to increase the curviture (sp?) of the corners. ;)

After trying this technique I have a few questions.

One, what size circles work the best? I tried large and small and neither produced smoothly rounded corners. They were round-ish but then had sharp edges when they met back up with the rectangle.

Two, is there any way to re-use your circle? After I used the inverse option and erased the edges my circle would disappear and I would have to repeat all the steps (inevitably with a slightly different sized circle).

Thank you for your patience!
