Hi everyone:~):)
I realize most tutorials are for PhotoShop (one version or another), but am looking for a tutorial featuring PSP, and making this fabulous bow from scratch! I have searched dozens of forums and the rest of the web (including the Ztampf site itself) for months now, and have come up still wanting this particular bow style.
Below is a sample of an original "ZtampfSampler_BeRibbow" by Lie Fhung (c)2005/2006 of Ztampf!
http://www.pspmadeez.org/files/ZtampfRibbon_HalfBow10.jpg
Conversely, if there is no PSP tutorial available, I'd be just as delighted with a PS tut, as very often the instruction can be adapted.

Thank you (in advance)!

Ila

Hi Ila!

do you know that most of the ribbon are scanned... And this one seem like one of them.

Isabelle

Hi Isabelle!

Actually, I do realize that they are scanned (largely) and tubed, but also know that there is much talent out there and someone just might know of a tut making them from scratch! Well that is my hope, anyway. Personally, I have collected more ribbons and bows than I'll ever use in my lifetime, so this hunt is not for lack of materials. lol - but I do have a friend that is 'chomping at the bit' to make THIS very bow! lol - so I thought I would give it a final effort:~)

Thanks so much for your response.

Huggies,
Ila

You could make this easily (well not easily but) using vector shapes and shading.,.

if you look at the shapes of the image, you can see the basic shapes that make up the differant parts of it. 2 would need to be the bottom most layer, 3 would need to be the TOP most layer.

I would make part '2' first since it needs to be the bottom. Using either the stopsign shape or rectangle shape. then before you convert the vector to raster use the vector edit tool to contort it as needed.,

contiue this process of making a section, shaping it and converting it.
Once you have all the parts made, use the lighten/darken tool + smudge tool to shade.

I know that (sadly), there has been a lot of piracy of Fhung's Beribbow. So just be careful if you run into an image that looks like it. There are pirate versions floating around that have been slightly altered but came from her original.

I think unless you are a total digimaster, the best thing to do is either scan a ribbon or take a good high quality photo of one. The latter technique may be preferable to avoid the harsh telltale 'scanner glare'.

You can also email Fhung - I'm sure she would be willing to share a suggestion or two.

Hi Ila, Debra pointed me to this thread :).

Yes, the BeRibbow above is made from my scanned bow that I altered further to personalize it more.

To make a bow from scratch, I'd draw a rectangular shape then shape it up further using Liquify Filter on Photoshop. I hand drew the folding/creases and the drop shadow. You can see a couple of organza bows that I made from scratch here in my layouts:
• Bouquet (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d136/ztampf/Layouts/Ztampf_DelicateDeia_Bouquet.jpg)
• It's a Girl! (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d136/ztampf/Layouts/Ztampf_PMA08.jpg)

Hope this helps :).

Feeling pretty silly here. I was subscribed to this thread, but apparently the notifications are not getting through to me:eek:. I had no clue there were more responses!

Bunny, thank you much for your suggestions, I will pass this note along to my bow loving friend! Again, thank you.

Thanks Debra (sorry I am SO late getting back over here)! As to being the digimaster, I can manipulate graphics well enough I guess, but my friend is the 'mastah' with vectors. Since she is the one wishing to create the bow from scratch in PSP, she'll be very interested to hear the suggestions from here.

Thanks again!

Dear Fhung,

As noted earlier, I didn't realize you responded here! Thank you for taking the time, and sharing your gorgeous layouts using your fabulous organza bows! Wonderful!

Further thanks for offering your suggestions. I wish we had something like the "Liquify Filter" (or a reasonable facsimile) in paint shop pro! These are the times when I wish I knew Photoshop!

Again, thank you.

Ila

We do, it is called the warp brush or the warp mesh! :)

Thank you, Haley64! Since I didn't have photoshop, I had no clue what the liquify filter did. Since you wrote, I now have a better understanding. Love those warp tools!

Thanks for the tip!

You're welcome! Sorry I misunderstood and thought that you knew what liquify was in PS. :)
Here is another article with visual aids for the settings also.

Thanks much! Great site, campratty. Was a godsend to users back when learning the 'new' PSP 8 (especially). Normally I would have googled the photoshop tools, but left that up to my friend that wants to make bows - lol. She may already know, as she has PS experience.

Thanks again!
Ila

The Warp Features does a decent job of mimicking the Liquify filter. Play around with that for similar effects.
