View Full Version : Your Inner Princess!!

This week we are going to do another thematic digital ATC swap!!
We are also getting our inspiration from none other than Sally Jean, herself! I just got her book in the mail from Amazon, and I'm so in awe of her creativity...(and her soldering expertise!)
So I thought it is time for each of us to let our inner princess out and create her in the style of Sally Jean's wonderful princess collection. Notice, she gives each one a "mission", or an aspect of her personality:
http://www.sallyjean.com/sallyjeanshopprincess.htm
I made this one some time back:
Music Princess (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=9346&cat=500&ppuser=923)
and this one is my current inner princess:
Forty (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=25797&nocache=1)
Here is a doll head png I found and prepared for you to use:
http://www.scrapartist.com/ctm/challenges/fiddlette-dollhead.png
I can't wait to see all the pretty little princesses floating around the Scrap Artist Altered gallery over the next week! Please come back here to post a link...
And if you are sharing in our digi swap, make sure to send me the full hi resolution jpeg file here:

What a wonderful challenge. How you guys come up with your ideas and those inspirational artists I don't know. Thanks!
And another swap, too. How fun is this?
Your forty princess reminds me a little bit of Claudine Hellmuth's Poppets, too.

oooh..i just love claudine hellmuths poppets, too....i had her in mind when i did my doll dress and shoes for the apprentice doodle challenge...but instead of extraordinarily long dresses, i made it very short, lol...to be different!
We should have a claudine hellmuth challenge very soon, eh? Sounds fun!!
but for now, gals, get out your inner princesses!! I know she wants to shine!!
I also just noticed that kathryn balint (a wonderful digital designer with a nostalgic and vintage emphasis in her style) has a couple of new kits with these china doll heads in them!! In case you get addicted ...I know I am!! :)

Oh, yeah, a Claudine Hellmuth challenge would be real fun.
We have one of her poppet sketches and a canvas at home and they are both absolutely fabulous. If anybody is interested, you can see the canvas on my blog:

Cool challenge Chistine! I can't wait to see how I can transform this doll head and also see what everyone else does. You are so "in the know" about these artists!! Love your 40 doll.

Fiddlette,
I've never done any of the altered challenges, but I was drawn to this thread by the doll head (I saw in your LO). We have this actual doll head in my Mom's china cabinet. Do you know anything about it? Please PM me if you do! It was my grandmother's doll.
thanks!

I have not as yet gotten into ATCs as I am only on dial up and it is almost impossible for me to get the huge downloads that these swaps entail. I tried with the recipe thing and it was a nightmare.
"IF" I participate in this it might just be a regular sized scrap sized page and will not be for the swap sorry.

10-30-2006, 01:38 PM
Hi Helen! Dial-up can be a real pain sometimes. But actually, it's not too bad to send a high-res ATC through dial-up because they are such a small canvas. Normally an ATC saved at full-size is still under 1MB. However, the full zip file with everyone's will be much larger than that. But I hope you will participate anyway!

So I SHOULD be working on my final kit for the Scrap Artist Apprentice. But what am I doing? That's right ... I am playing with dolls! LOL! The kit will have to wait. I am tired. This doll took forever! But it was so much fun to cut out all of those doll pieces. Very cool inspiration.
I decided to be the American Princess (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=25946&cat=500&ppuser=1707).

O, my lord! You caught me! I was reading your post thinking I am not going to bother because nobody needs my frog peeking out of all the china doll heads, it will unbalance the "collection". Yeah, yeah, I will send it kiddo but honestly, it was a quirk addition to an otherwise neat gallery.

Okay....I'll admit...I had my doubts about this...mainly because the doll head thing really creeped me out....(don't ask...it's a china doll thing apparently some deep rooted awful memory from my childhood...who knows!). It really became lots of fun...like playing paper dolls and I just couldn't stop finding accessories!!
Thanks for letting me play!

HOLY COW!!! I had to take a few days off of the forums in order to finish up my final kit for the Scrap Artist Apprentice competition. It is finally done and sent off to the SA ladies and now I come back to find this INCREDIBLE gallery of dolls! I will comment on them each individually ... but as a group, they are AWESOME! Thank you guys so much for your wonderful participation and thanks to my partner Christine for this fun challenge!

However I'm not totally happy with the final result I decided to post my Inner Princess. It was to much work to let it only on my computer or to delete it. And I had to start somewhere with this kind of work, because I do like it.
Here is my Familyhistory Princess (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=26269&cat=602). Thanks for the inspiration and the Doll-head.
