I kind of stumbled onto this tip the other day when doing a layout, and I like the results I get from it.

First, the layout is here (and the elements and papers are from Christy Lyle's Bohemian Mommy kit and predone album)

And next here's the little "tip" I stumbled onto while working with this layout:

The main photo in the top right corner. I really liked the look that I got there, it allows the photo to be monochromatic but match the background paper, yet it didn't really show much of the texture through onto the photo. Here's what I did to get that...

First - turn your photo to black and white. Use whatever method you would like to use, but I usually use Channel Mixer.
Second - Duplicate the photo layer on your layout.
Third - turn your light mode to Luminocity on the top photo layer
Fourth - turn your light mode to Overlay on the bottom layer.

Now, I'm finding this tip works best for light backgrouns. Pastels, softer colors work really well with it. If you have a darker background your picture can get a little "neonish" (you know - looking a little too neon... lol!) On darker backgounds I've tried changing that top layer to Multipy and I like the colors better, but it lets some of the texture of the paper come through with those settings. It just isn't quite the same effect as the lighter papers give.

Just something to try out the next time you want a new or diffferent effect on a layout.
