This week's Heritage Challenge doesn't involve the use of heritage pictures at all! Instead, we are creating 'legacy layouts.' These are layouts that future generations will find very interesting. The challenge is to create a layout about what you remember of a major event that occurred in your lifetime. The obvious choice for Americans today is the attacks that occurred on 9/11/01. But perhaps you remember the day Kennedy was shot, or you were effected by the Tailand Tsunami in 2004 or Hurricane Katrina last year.

I remember my Grandpa telling me once about the attack on Pearl Harbor which directly led to the start of World War II. I wish I had recorded that conversation! Or the talk I had with my great-grandmother about the first time she saw a "horseless carriage" (an automobile).

Illustrate this page any way you wish. But the main focus this week is the journaling. I look forward to reading all of your entries.

Here's mine: Our September Story (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=22324&cat=500&ppuser=1707)

As I sat in my car waiting with my son for his bus this morning...and listening to the radio broadcast a montage of moments from 5 years ago...I held my 10 year-olds hand, and cried. We were forever changed that day...I'll be working on this later tonight...Thanks Robyn for the opportunity and the inspiration to do this...

I know what you mean. I was driving to work and it was the exact time that the first tower was hit 5 years ago. The radio station had a moment of silence and then played Lee Greenwood's "Proud To Be An American" and I cried. I am still on the verge of tears. That day effected everyone so much. Tonight I will hold my kids a little tighter!

My heritage challenge friends are getting used to me posting on Tuesdays so I'm bumping this thread! I was actually on time and then there were server issues! I hope you will all play this week. No heritage pictures required!!!

This weekend was really difficult for me. Watching all the TV coverage from that day brought back all the feelings. I ended up doing a complete album on the September 11 attacks.

This is the final page of the album that talks about how and when I found out and all the feelings I have and still have regarding that horrible day.

September 11th was a major turning point in my life. So much so that I can't scrap it. I was in Pakistan with my husband. Eventually I was evacuated back to the UK, because it wasn't safe in Pakistan, but my husband wasn't. I had to go home and listen to all the news stories, knowing that my husband was still there, with threats being sent to him daily. Bonfire night seemed to come early that year, with fireworks going off, which sounded just like gunfire and bombs. That's when the fibromyalgia first struck me.

OMG wow! Thank you for sharing your story here. I can see why you couldn't scrap this. 9-11 effected most of us in some way and it sounds like it was particularly life-changing for you.

On 9/11, I was just getting out of the shower and turned on the TV and then just watched and cried for the next three or four hours. I didn't know want to go to work and I remembered the same feelings from when I was in the 7th grade and the hostages were taken in Iran. I kept crying and I everyday my class along with the rest of the world watched and waited for their release. It was the first time I think I was really aware of the struggles in the Middle East and just what they meant to our country.

Here is my page for the "I Remember" challenge:

The pictures are from the internet and therefore not very high res. But the one with the yellow ribbon was the one that caught my eye and brought back all the memories of all the yellow trimmed trees in my town and all over the US.

here is my bad attempt at doing this challenge. I thought about it for several days, decided on some wording and from there it just got worse. I just couldn't put this together so i was happy with it... but anyway here it is...

thanks for your comments... still not sure that i like it.... I was amazed last night to be watching on TV, 50 yrs of australian tv and their biggest stories. JFK was their biggest story... so it was funny to be watching that when i had just finished scrapping that LO!

then there was diana's wedding and then her death. Another big story was about Martyn Bryant, who killed 22 people in Tasmania in 1996.. i think i might scrap that too, as the gun issue has been a big deal here in australia.

This was tough...but I think it may have inspired me to take on a history project for my son. His grandfather who died long before he was born had started saving entire newspapers from the days that major events occured. My ex-husband has done the same for Ian adding to those he had from his father. I may just start compliling that stuff and creat a History Album for him. Both he and his Dad are fascinated with history so it might be a fun project to work on together...

Anyway...this particular layout could stand to be two pages...and the colors are kind of wonky for some reason...

that is a wonderful tribute, really well written, it made me cry. I am in south australia and know how seeing those photos makes me feel, those of you close to this happening must really feel the pain of it all. Your wording is really heartfelt and says things we all feel i am sure.

and

your location - not the end of the world, but you can see it.... we must be neighbours... we say that too!!!! LOL

Of all of the events I have lived through ... this one definitely effected me the most. I love what you created!
