I have a confession. I always make a big deal out of my birthday! LOL! It's just a really important day to me and I celebrate pretty much the whole week. I don't really care if anyone wishes me a happy birthday - I just enjoy myself. It's fun to think of what the year has in store for me. That being said and because this is my birth week (I'll be 36 on July 27th) - this week's challenge is going to revolve around YOUR birth year! For some of you, this won't even be a heritage layout! That's ok because it will be someday.
So dig out the pictures of the first few months of your life and then do a little research and find out what was going on in the world while you were being born! The best place I have found to do this research is Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/20th_century). Just do a Google search for Wikipedia and your year of birth. (Example: Wikipedia 1970).
The title of your page should be your birth year and then you are free to organize the rest of the page however you would like. I did a collage of some of the more important things that went on in 1970. Perhaps you will just make a list or possibly even a timeline. To illustrate my page, I used images I found on Google image search (be sure to sort them by large image).
Have fun and be sure to post to the Heritage Challenge gallery. I'll have mine uploaded in a few minutes.

I really had a lot of fun making this. I hope you will all give this week's challenge a try. It takes a bit of time but it makes a wonderful page. Here is the link: 1970 (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=17580&cat=500&ppuser=1707)

Oh I wish more people would participate! This is so cool! I did six DECADES of research (1945-2005) for a book I made my dad for his 60th birthday last year. CLICK HERE (http://waynemagazine.com/86-87.html) if you care to see how I managed that! LOL!

Robyn, what an awesome book. Your father must have loved it. My mother turns 70 next year -- I may have to "lift" your idea. :)

I had fun doing this. I am enjoying the constraints of ATC at the moment, so not labels on this card, but I did write the events in the description:

I'm enjoying seeing what everyone's doing with this challenge! I don't know if I'll get around to it soon, but I did something like it when I was still paper scrapping. Would it be all right if I scanned my paper page and posted that in the gallery? Or is the gallery only for digital pages?

This was alot of fun and very informative. I had so much stuff on the layout and still wanted to journalize specifics of most that I had to create a 2-page layout
Here's mine...1956

love the filmstrip look and the mix of personal and world events.
Am I allowed to cheat a little bit?
I actually made this LO a while ago for a challenge, but I'd like to share it here as well. :)
Ok, I'm having problems uploading, but I'll be back with a link later. :D

Hi Robyn and everyone,
I made a LO for this challenge, but I can't upload it right now. I tried twice, and I got an error. I'll try again later in the day.

Sorry you are having trouble. I look forward to seeing it!
I keep having problems uploading too.... I've tried several times the past few hours.
Hope it'll be ok soon. :)
Ok, I admit - I have no patience. lol
Still not able to upload to the heritage gallery, so I just put my layout in the members gallery and will change it when possible. :)

HI Again,
I didn't want to wait any longer, so I did the same...just loaded it to the member gallery.
I had a lot of fun with this. I decided to focus mostly on daily life...pop songs, cost of living, TV shows. I don't remember any of the current events of the times, but I do remember (and love) those songs and TV shows! And the cost information is interesting don't you think? (the increase in minimum wage seems totally out of whack with the other increases don't ya think?).

Thanks for the challenge...hope to participate lots more in the weeks ahead!
