I loved seeing all of the black and white photos last week! This week, we are going to turn our attention to WAR! Most of us have family members who were in WWI, WWII, The Korean War, Vietnam ... or many other struggles in world history. The challenge this week is to scrap this! If you don't have a picture, that's ok. Just tell the story. OR ... use one of my pictures. CLICK HERE (http://www.robynengland.com/images/sa/wwii.jpg) to download it. The preview is below. This picture is from WWII. I believe it is 1942.
My sample will be up later today. Sorry ... gotta run to work!

Donna ... WOW! What an incredible story. Really, really cool. I am so happy that you have preserved it in this way because that is a story that should not be lost in time. Thanks so much for playing! You are so fast!!!

Robyn, Your kit has come in so handy! Why is it that I am not surprised that sooner or later we had to do a war challenge? :)
I was just a kid during WW2. but since my Dad was career Navy, we had memories of what the war was like.

This is quite a timely challenge as it is ANZAC day here in NZ and in Australia today April 25th. ANZAC day is our rememberance day and ties in with the celebration of the NZ and Australian soldiers that lost their lives at Galipoli in Turkey in World War 1.
My grandfarther survived this defeat that they sustained. I will try and do this challenge. There is quite a famous photo of a soldier on the beach at Galipoli that my grandmother always claimed was my grandad. I will try and find it.

Oh I'm going to have fun with this! This is probably one of my favorite topics......not "war" but honoring service men and women. I have so many people in my family that I could use for this one.....from the Civil War and up to the Vietnam war with every one in between. The hard part will be in who to choose! lol

Here's mine for this challenge. Didn't have any photos or stories I could use but still wanted an excuse to play with Robyn's awesome kit. So I used a poem called The Battlefield (http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=11777&cat=585) by Emily Dickinson instead.

Love them both! Your journaling is so awesome. Looks like I picked a good week to have a war challenge. I had no idea about ANZAC Day!

thanks for your comments. Yes ANZAC day is certainly becoming more and more popular around AUst and NZ, it is just wonderful to see so many young people come along to the services. While Art doesn't have a lot of war photos, i enjoy scrapping what I can of them, especially while he is still alive to see them. He gets rather emotional about those sorts of things now. I have printed some off for him this week and gave them to him on the day. His wife's brother died at the battle of Tobruk. You did a good job to pick war as a theme at this time, for us Aussies and NZ people. thanks.

I so look forward each week to the next heritage challenge. Definitely gives me the excuse I need to get these photos scrapped to share with future generations.

I liked this challenge. I might do another layout for it. It gave me an opportunity to call my Dad and get him to talk about his time in Vietnam. Ironically, this picture of him is at Ft Bragg where I live now.

Here's another layout for last week's challenge. My Dad told me a lot when I called him about doing this challenge. Now I have a little more understanding and a lot more appreciation. I will probably be doing more on my Dad's service in Vietnam. It's "therapy" that's long overdue for me. :-)
