I use this quickie for both clip art and photographs. Of course, I use Optikverve and Dave's Midnight Sepia but this is another neat effect and because you enter the variables, it can be tweaked a lot. Because I don't know what I am doing, I can't explain why but it seems to add real depth to clip art and incredible light to photographs.

1. Open clip art or photo (from now on, I am just going to say photo but it really works well with clip art so be sure to try it) and duplicate the layer.
2. On the second layer, use a guassian blur. This is the first variable. 20 to 25 is the usual range of blur I use but anything goes.
3. Change the blend mode of the blurred layer to overlay. This is the second variable. Some other blends work really well too although they tend to be more far out in the result.
4. You can change the opacity of the blurred layer. This is the third variable.

For something a lot more complicated but pretty darn fantastic looking, check out this post http://www.scrapartist.com/scrapforums/showthread.php?t=246
