Can anyone explain to me how to make stitches in Photoshop 7?
I'd like to make a straight forward stitch and a zig-zag.

A word of warning ... I spent an ENTIRE day trying to figure it out last year. Then I gave up because mine looked like crap and just bought some really cheap. Best of luck in your creative endeavors!! My designing skills just lacks something. Actually, it lacks everything!!

My biggest problem isn't the actual stitches, it's those lovely little holes or black circles or WHATEVER that go before and after the stitch and lend it the realism I so desire. I've spent hours zoomed in adding those on a separate layer underneath, only to put it at print size and have it look like I did nothing OR like the stitch is coming out of a crater. GRRRRR...
Anyway, good luck! And let us know if you come up with any magic stitching tricks!

Nisha, thank you! These are so lovely and I never saw them before. Original Poster, there are some tutorials out there. The best (IMHO) can be found at Digiscrap Designer by Tandika Star. But I have to confess I buy them. And in fact, at this very moment, I am losing a battle I have been fighting for three weeks NOT to buy the Boho Chic add on pack just to get those stitches. I have resisted and resisted and resisted but I don't think I can take it any more...

Thank you all for the responses. I'd like to try my hand at making some, but Nisha those will work perfectly for me if I can't figure out how to make them. Thank you!

I made a stitch brush, you can drag it around, or stoke a line, so you have stiches in any form you can draw. You can make the stiches follow the brush by adjusting some brush parameters:
Shape Dynamics: set angle jitter control to 'direction'
Brush tip shape: change spaceing until the display has the stiches end-to-end
The brush itself is a 5 px dot with a 3 px line coming out if it. all black. I'm sure someone with better skills can draw a prettier stitch with dimension and twisted threads and stuff.

Karen Hunt has a nice freebie circle stich on her blog right now too. It is to celebrate her new Sewing Kit line but it isn't available as part of that. Her blog link is http://karenahunt.blogspot.com/

I agree - once you make a good stitch you are happy with, save it as a brush! I can make any kind of squiggly or straight stitch I want now using it and it is a huge time saver!!! I too love buying things, but then I get to the point where I just HAVE TO make it myself!
