So maybe this should be called MY version of “Our Story”, as I am sure Neal remembers things a bit differently. He would tell you that we met in a hot-tub, but it didn't actually happen that way. It was a cold night in the spring MARCH 1997. I had just gotten out of a bad relationship. One of my sorority sisters told me that she had a friend from high school that she wanted me to meet. She told me that he was a senior at Lock Haven and that he was home on spring break. He came to our dorm lobby. Heather introduced us. He seemed nice enough, but I really was not looking for another relationship. Instead of going to the bar that night, since I was sill only 20, Neal decided that we could all go and hang out at his parents house – since they had a hot tub. The evening was fun, and when it was over, Neal and I exchanged phone numbers. The next day, Neal called and asked me if I wanted to hang out again. He also started sending me romantic e-mails. At first, I thought he must be crazy. He hardly knew me.
He came to my dorm to pick me up for our first “official” date and he brought a single red rose. He continued to bring me a rose for each subsequent date. At this point, I knew he was not the typical college guy. His e-mails became more romantic and I found myself looking forward to hearing his voice and getting his messages daily. Within two weeks, I knew he would be the man I married. We continued dating that year and Neal graduated from Lock Haven. I still had 2 more years at Grove City to finish up. He got a job in DC following graduation. It was hard being that far away, but he made it so much easier by making the 5 hour car trip to see me EVRY weekend! Out of 52 weeks of him living in DC, he came to see me 51 times! Now that is dedication! I knew he loved me to make such a sacrifice. In 1998, he moved to Butler, PA – only about 45 minutes from Grove City. This made seeing him much easier. I also had a car at school, so I could go to his apartment. Over the summer, he proposed. He had told me that he was saving up for a computer, when in reality he had been saving up to buy me an engagement ring. I was mad that he had lied, but I couldn't be too upset considering the reason. We were married in September of 1999 and the rest is history.
