Artist's Date

I’ve really been inspired by bloggers like Ann Voskamp who have challenged us to find the precious in the ordinary, the treasures in the everyday, the beauty in the ugly.  This morning, I dropped everything and in the midst of a crazy-busy day I took a long, deep breath.  With camera in hand, I went in search of the ugly-beautiful.

Mud-covered boots, recently worn to splash away the afternoon in fresh Spring puddles.

Unwashed laundry, a reminder that we have all we need.

Cracked terra-cotta pot, speckled with signs of new life–tiny green leaves.

Leaky faucet, used for washing eager toddler hands after a dig in the garden.

Growing tree reflected in muddy-murky water.

Imprints from yesterday’s bicycle race in the driveway, overlaid with signs of a long-awaited arrival home.

Sweet smelling grass springing up near pooling rain.

Worn-out wooden beams and crumbling concrete, making way for Spring.

Dirty dishes, ready to be washed, leftovers from brownie-making and an evening of rest.

Weeds turned to precious treasure, picked with love and prominently displayed.  A reminder that I am blessed.

Be careful how you interpret the world.  It is like that.  –Erich Heller
