During the weekday workshop this past week, Aja shared a really neat trick which I did not know about. Unfortunately, this trick is only useful for PSCS3 and above. For CS2 users like me, I luckily found something similar so don’t you just leave yet.
The script, Load Files into Stack, will automatically open your selected images in the same canvas, each on a different layer! In Aja’s example, she used this trick to make a multi-photo LO.
1. Open up a new canvas and fill it with white, then go to File>Scripts>Load Files into Stack.

2. Select the photos you want to use on your layout. They will automatically open in the same canvas on separate layers.

This will also be very useful when using alphas. How much easier will that be?! Instead of opening each alpha and then moving each one onto your LO, it can all be done with a single click!
Now, for CS2 users…
This nifty little script is not built into our version of Photoshop. However, I found a similar script that we can use. It’s a little more complicated to use but still a timesaver!
First, we have to download and install the script.
1. Download the “Import Folder as Layers” script from Free Photoshop Scripts by Trevor Morris. Follow his instructions on how to install it.
2. Create a temporary folder that contains only the images/files that you want opened together in the same canvas. The major difference between this script and the one installed in CS3 is the ability to choose the files you want to open within the folder. This script opens ALL the images in the folder.

3. Run the script by going to File>Scripts>Import Folder as Layers.

4. Each file will open on its own layer with the layers named accdg to the file they represent.

Hope you enjoyed today’s trick.
